Our Pedigree

Johnny Walker, the founder and CEO, is an Australian medical graduate who completed his basic training at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney before embarking on formal specialist training in Diagnostic Imaging at The Royal Canberra Hospital in 1989.

The following year at The Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia he gained Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. In 1994 he was the recipient of The Schering Fellowship to study Nuclear Medicine at The Royal Post Graduate Medical School at The Hammersmith Hospital in London where he was involved in the installation of the world's first film-less PACS department. In 1995 he accepted the invitation to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge where he completed his dual qualification in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

He returned to Western Australia in 1996 where he built a diagnostic imaging practice from ground up devoted to regional rural and remote healthcare. "Imaging the South" (www.imagingthesouth.com.au) has grown from a small working model launched "from the boot of a station wagon" to a fully comprehensive multimodality diagnostic provider servicing in excess of 500 patients every day of every year across 12 sites.

"Imaging the South" was nominated for and won The Western Australian “Telstra Best Business Award 2002" with particular recognition for the Group's pioneering application and development of digital technology in providing high quality, real time, readily accessible, metropolitan standard diagnostic services to the regional communities of WA. The technology has removed the penalty of distance and isolation for the region's medical practitioners by forging electronic links to international centres of excellence permitting tertiary level clinical & academic peer support with access around the clock around the world to "world best" second opinions on any type of pathology.

Johnny founded "Global Diagnostics" in September 2000 after a tide of international invitations to explore the possibility of building on the successful clinical and operational systems and processes of "Imaging the South". Global Diagnostics has now created a truly global network of diagnosticians linked around the clock, around the world in a "virtual practice" focussed on providing the highest level of care in a timely and cost effective manner.

Global is expanding fast and adding new sites all the time. It currently has nine established sites in the UK (see Our Locations for more details).
